The label must give the name and business address in Australia or New Zealand of a supplier of the food (Standard 1.2.2-4), so an overseas brand is identified on pack through its NZ or Australian supplier.
Food labels are read against the bi-national Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code set by FSANZ; cosmetics are read against the EPA's Cosmetic Products Group Standard, whose Schedule 1 labelling requires ingredients named by INCI and which, from the 2024 amendment, accepts labelling compliant with Australian, US, Canadian, UK or EU cosmetic rules for clause 12(2) of the Hazardous Substances (Labelling) Notice 2017.
Nutrition content and health claims on food are permitted only as set out in Code Standard 1.2.7, and the supplier named on the label carries them.
